Jadavpur University is an open university which was established in 1955. Earlier, it was 
known as Bengal Technical Institute. The university is associated with the Association of
Indian Universities and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council. The university 
features two campuses. Also, the QS World University Rankings has placed the university 
in 74th position. The university comprises the school of environmental studies that work 
on highlighting the conditions of water scarcity. In 2011, the laser animation lab was 
developed which was assisted by Manick Sorcar, a well-known American scientist.

Mode of admissions:
The application form for the majority of UG and PG courses is made
available on the university website and the admission to most of the courses is done
around July.

Admission to B.Pharm., B.Tech. and B.Arch. is done on the basis of WBJEE scores.

Admission to MCA, ME/M.Tech. and M.Pharm is done on the basis of marks obtained in
different Entrance Tests viz. GATE/WB JECA/GPAT.

Candidates are shortlisted for admission to the rest of the programs is done on the basis
of entrance exam, conducted by the University except B.Sc.

For B.Sc, Seats will be allotted on the basis of previous academic merit.

Campus area:

Jadavpur University is semi-residential, which at present operates out of two urban
campuses:
Main Campus :One in Jadavpur (58 acres (230,000 m2)) and
Second Campus :  in Salt Lake (26 acres (110,000 m2)).

Hostel:

The hostel condition is very bad but in such low fee that is good so if you want a good
placement in low fee then you should prefer it.
